History
The landscapes on this tour hold stories stretching far beyond Tasmania’s colonial past. kunanyi / Mount Wellington has deep cultural and spiritual significance for Tasmanian Aboriginal people. In the Coal River Valley, European farming developed in the early 1800s, with the district becoming one of Tasmania’s major wheat-growing areas. Richmond was proclaimed a township in 1824, and its convict-built sandstone bridge, completed in 1825, remains a striking reminder of that era. Today, the village’s Georgian buildings and the valley’s vineyards bring together Tasmania’s heritage and its celebrated food and wine culture.
